So creepy it’s cool. I must have it. It’ll make for the weirdest fleur de sel you’ve ever sprinkled.

In what may be the quickest blog-to-book deal in the history of the internets (can anyone from Stuff White People Like weigh in?), Regretsy: Where DIY Meets WTF ($14) is available for pre-order, with an April 6 release date. I didn’t even know they they still existed, blogger book deals, what with the whole recession and bubble bursting and death of print and the counterintuitiveness of the whole concept.
Honestly, though, it couldn’t have happened to a funnier blogger. April Winchell (whose name I only learned just this second) took what could have been a very simple, coast-happy premise – a showcase of Etsy’s weirdest crap and craziest vendors – and made it work every day with witty comments, creative Photoshop, a charitable angle (and I don’t just mean helping sell the weird crap), and the always hilarious View it in a Room feature (ooh, Nancy Drew alert! While I was Googling ‘View it in a Room’ I found this. Looks like they’ve got a new site in the works, devoted to this feature).
The site’s biggest sin? Making me buy things as a joke. No! Stop! I’ve only just recently convinced myself I’ve got to stop wearing things ‘because they’re funny.’
(Shout out to the Etsy vendor Furbabies Boutique who made – and, yes, sold – the goat coat in the pic.)
