Confession: I only hit one show at Montreal Fashion Week 2010, and this was not unusual for me. I think the last time I really got into it was back when I was young and free and living-at-home enough to be a volunteer bartender for YSO, and even then my friends and I got to bring home tons of wine and tip money (from a Montreal crowd! Rare!).
So anyway, I attended the the showcase for Télio fabrics’ student design competition, after writing a piece on the contest for Zink magazine and giving the kids a talk earlier that day (about the big bad world of magazines and their underpaid, overworked editorial staff). Tons of talent and perfectly suited to those of us with short attention spans (25 different designs rather than 25 pieces in one collection). As is often the case, my eye was drawn to the ‘real’ people rather than the models. All the fashion students were unbearably cute and cool and ready to be stylists-slash-anything.
Though she ‘only’ came in third (out of 25 finalists), Ingrid Bergstrom-Kendrick (pictured above) caught my eye . Not only does she have an excellent name, I loved her fur-accented cowl. Designer’s own, natch.
