An ‘alarm clock’ ($40) that’s really just a piece of wood that fits your iPhone, from Areaware. But a pretty block of wood! Need it.

So creepy it’s cool. I must have it. It’ll make for the weirdest fleur de sel you’ve ever sprinkled.

From afar? A funky light. But look up close and this lamp ($125) from Etsy vendor 2nd Draft is  made up of 16mm film cells taken from health films of the ’60s and ’70s. Awkward phases never looked so good.

I’m putting everything in mason jars these days: Flowers, tea lights, homemade vanilla. But something on the outside, like one of these lace knit mason jar covers ($90 for 10), from this Etsy shop? Like the most precious (and, yes, hipsteriest) tea cozy ever.

Really digging this upcycled cigar/jewelry box ($22) from Etsy vendor Innocent Witch. Debating whether or not simply being upcycled is enough to qualify for a post on The Greater Goods. Maybe I’ll get lucky and they’ll start donating a portion of proceeds to  a lung cancer charity. Or impoverished Wiccans.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of Muji (though I hear you really need to check out the Japan shops for the full experience and product line), so when B likened Swedish store Granit to a shop I tend to leave empty-handed (‘Wait, I don’t really need this $12 plastic box of q-tips!’), I was a bit wary…
And wrong! Granit is absolutely charming and I stopped in at every branch we passed during our trip to make sure I hadn’t missed anything, as well as to just gawk at all the disgustingly tasteful decor. And people. All made more charming, I’m sure, by being in pre-holiday* mode.
Anyway, I made it out of there with a slim, black cotton backpack (about 360 kr), a striped scarf (149 kr) and a little organic banner of flags (does that make sense? I mean like this) for something like 60 kr. I’d convert the rices but I’m still in denial about how much I spent.
*That holiday being Santa Lucia. Duh.

Mile End’s Marché La Récré is on again this weekend. It’s a bit like Puces Pop, only outdoors and every week (at least until early autumn). There are a few frequent vendors, lots of vintage clothing and jewelry, plus some booths that only show up sporadically (like the always amazing and affordable Sunday Adventure Club). For the most part I’ve been checking out the booth set up by nearby design store Style Labo, which is one of my all-time favourite shops in Montreal (meaning I check it out every week and buy from it… never).
Everything Style Labo’s booth is relatively affordable and tax-free. Lots of mid-century accessories and kitchenware. Two weeks ago I picked up a fish-shaped trivet just like the one above (available at Etsy shop Fishbone Deco), marked down to $12 from $40.
