The Theoretical Shopaholic

A few new things in the old OddBirds Etsy shop, including these sweet, sassy (yes, both) Anna Sui cat’s eye sunglasses ($129). Yes, the photos are subpar, especially in the context of Etsy (where everyone’s a hobby photographer/part-time model and has a studio full of antlers and antique milk crates), but the pieces are primo. Yes, primo.

Someone is trying to sell an Hermès shopping bag, the paper kind, on Etsy. For $30. While I’m well-acquainted with paper bag princesses – women who use small shopping bags, mostly from upscale stores, to carry things around (including lunch) – this is more than a little silly.

Remember when ties got overdone for everyone (mostly due to intelligent grown women not wanting to be associated with Avril Lavigne, but also because they were showing up as skirts and belts and other tatty ‘upcycled’ accessories)? Well, I’ve always liked them. In fact, I’ve got a pretty big collection of vintage and designer ties tucked away in a box, waiting to be worn. But if I can’t wear them all… something like these belts ($35) from Etsy vendor Renee Kurz could work.

I can’t remember if macarons are still ‘in’ (are they the new cupcakes or the old artisan donuts?), but if you still think they’re sweet you might just be cooing over this little macaron-shaped change purse ($23) from Etsy vendor Kirara. Not cute enough for you? It’s lined with Liberty fabric. I’ve got a toothache over it all.

As a child (and a fan of Katy Keene comics) I always assumed that I’d own a dress like this (only $140! from Mercy Vintage Now). In every colour.

So… this jacket ($495, from Vintage Art and Goods)… good find on Etsy or best find in the history of all jackets ever?

Still wearing feathers? Pfft. For somethng a bit more bad ass, try porcupine quill earrings ($30) from Etsy vendor Adam J Waddell.

So creepy it’s cool. I must have it. It’ll make for the weirdest fleur de sel you’ve ever sprinkled.

They say there’s nothing new out there (not sure if that applies to Etsy or, like, you know, the world) but I’m really digging this creative chain-link scarf ($58) from Etsy vendor Yokoo. Warm jewelry!

But would it kill the model to smile?

Ha ha, just kdding. Pretending I’m old and bitter and wondering why young people don’t smile more. But come on. You’re stylish AND cozy!

From afar? A funky light. But look up close and this lamp ($125) from Etsy vendor 2nd Draft is  made up of 16mm film cells taken from health films of the ’60s and ’70s. Awkward phases never looked so good.
